The Night Agent Season 2 Sneak Peek: Dial in to the First 8 Minutes

Peter is back in (night) action.

The last time The Night Agent fans saw Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), his trustworthy companion Rose (Luciane Buchanan) was by his side. In the Season 2 premiere, however, Peter is sharing a romantic stroll with someone else: newcomer Alice, played by Pitch Perfect star Brittany Snow.

Like so many of the twists and turns in The Night Agent — which returns on Jan. 23 — things aren’t what they seem. Alice isn’t Peter’s love interest. She’s his new mentor and partner in the high stakes Night Agent program.

The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan hopes Snow’s natural charm helps viewers “build an instant connection” with the new character. “So even when you’re like, ‘Well, wait a second, who’s this woman holding hands with Peter? Where’s Rose?’ You still don’t hate her,” he tells Tudum. “You might not think ‘Brittany Snow’ when you think of a spy thriller series, but I knew she could do it. And she was really game.”

Snow needed to be game to jump right into the action of The Night Agent Season 2. As seen in the clip above, Alice and Peter’s mission takes a turn toward the dangerous as the pair stroll through Bangkok, Thailand, while tracking the inscrutable Warren (Teddy Sears), a high-level American intelligence officer, who they suspect is behind a major intelligence leak. Alice and Peter’s investigation quickly puts them face-to-face — and weapon-to-weapon — with some very dangerous individuals.

After ending Season 1 with the promise of Peter’s Night Agent career, writer and executive producer Ryan wanted to drop viewers directly into the adrenaline-spiking drama they expect from the series. “I didn’t want to waste too much time with Peter training to be a Night Agent,” he explains. “What I wanted was a feeling that Peter is not at home. Peter is out of his element — and is the stranger in a new land.”

Basso says it was “awesome” to explore Peter’s new position in such a totally new location. “I think Peter's trying to find his footing in this new world he's living in,” Basso says to Tudum. “He hasn’t had time to adjust.” Season 2 picks up about nine months following the harrowing events of the Season 1 finale, which saw Peter save President Michelle Travers’ life. He was offered a role in Night Action for his heroism.

“Peter was thrown right from the Camp David incident into training. Then on top of that, he's thrown into the field,” Basso says. “He’s just not getting an inhale moment — a moment to acclimate.”

Well, it doesn’t seem like Peter will be taking a breather anytime soon. By the end of the premiere clip, Peter is surrounded by gun-wielding enemies as he runs through the streets of Bangkok at full speed. How will he find his way out of this latest espionage crisis? Will Alice be able to save him? And, what would Rose think about Peter’s latest adventure? To find out, you’ll have to tune into The Night Agent Season 2 when it premieres on Jan. 23.
