Is your jaw still on the floor after the end of Outer Banks Season 4, Part 1, when Luke Maybank (Gary Weeks) dropped the bombshell that JJ (Rudy Pankow) was actually born a Kook?!

Well, at this rate, just leave your jaw where it is. Because we’ve got the first eight minutes of Part 2 queued up above so you Pogues can learn Luke and JJ’s backstory — the real one — before the rest of the season drops on Nov. 7.

Season 4, Part 1 ends on a cliff-hanger, and Part 2 helps you climb right back over the edge to get the answers you (and JJ) need to know. The beginning of Part 2 is narrated by Luke explaining how he came to adopt JJ after working on the grounds of the Genrettes’ home. He was employed by JJ’s mother, Larissa Genrette (Tommi Rose), and his father, Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane).

“It’s an interesting thought of, ‘Why is Luke the way he is?’ ” Pankow tells Tudum. “And the writers dove into that with Gary this season.” Luke’s backstory, especially, is one Chase Stokes (who plays JJ’s best friend John B) was curious about, too. “I always thought, ‘What is the backstory of Luke? Did he come from the other side?’ ” Stokes said. “The backstory was great.”

While the locals on Kildare Island have long thought Larissa’s infant child died with her in a rumored drowning, Luke reveals that was never the case, since that baby was actually JJ. And it’s a reality JJ, understandably, struggles to take in.

“This guy just got thrown this responsibility,” says Drew Starkey (who plays Kook prince Rafe Cameron). “He’s doing the best he can.”

The first eight minutes also answer a question OBX fans have had for nearly four seasons — JJ’s birth name, which is Jackson. Before Season 4, both Pankow and Stokes had thought the second J stood for John. “That’s why it’s John B and JJ,” says Pankow. “For John Jackson.”

Creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke agree with taking their “Johns” lead on this one. “That sounds right,” Burke tells Tudum. “We had a conversation about this, and I actually can’t remember what we said. Jackson was one of the Js.”

But Luke isn’t done rocking JJ’s world by the time the flashback is over. As JJ runs off in disbelief, Luke says he has one more thing to tell him. As for what that is, you’ll have to watch the rest of the season when Part 2 premieres on Nov. 7 to find out.
