The Ultimatum: Queer Love makes one thing abundantly clear: Straight couples don’t have a monopoly on commitment issues.

Brace yourself for even more dating chaos, because the experiment is back for Season 2, streaming now on Netflix. Six new queer couples — each at a crossroads in their lives — are faced with a life-changing (and potentially relationship-shattering) opportunity. One partner wants to settle down and get married, while the other isn’t quite ready to take the plunge. To figure out their future, the couples agree to enter a trial marriage with other people in an attempt to figure out what — and perhaps more importantly who — they really want.

Who hosts The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2?

Actor JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Sweet Magnolias, Gossip Girl, Reba) returns to host the season and support the couples through each phase of the experiment, as they temporarily split up, date, get trial married, and reunite before deciding if they can actually say “I do” — and to whom.

“I loved the idea of hosting a show, but when it was an opportunity to help tell this story of celebrating queer love, I thought, ‘Yes, this is the right moment’ and I just jumped in with two feet,” Garcia Swisher previously told Tudum. “We cannot ignore the importance of celebrating queer relationships. There are incredible complexities and nuances to them that should be respected, but in many ways, they’re exactly the same as a non-queer relationship. We all deserve our happy ending — whatever that looks like.”

How does The Ultimatum: Queer Love work again?

The couples enter the experiment because one of them has issued an ultimatum: Marry me or move on. First, the couples split up to date and get to know the other newly single women and non-binary participants. Then, each must make a choice of who — besides their original partner — they’d like to enter a trial marriage with. After living together as trial spouses for three weeks, all the participants meet back up at the changeover, where they get back together with their original partners. Following another three-week trial marriage, each person must decide if they’re ready for the real thing. Will they get engaged to their original partner or pursue a relationship with their first trial spouse? Or will they choose to leave the experiment alone?
