Netflix’s holiday rom-com A Castle for Christmas has everything: aristocracy, snow, a romance novelist, a legit castle and a killer cast straight out of your romantic fantasies.

The film follows fledgling romance writer Sophie (Brooke Shields), who decides to treat herself to a vacation in Scotland. She’s also hoping to learn more about her grandfather, who grew up in the castle of Dunbar, but she hits a roadblock when she meets castle owner Myles, the Duke of Dunbar (Cary Elwes). Grumpy and unwelcoming, he isn’t interested in bending to the whims of an American tourist or helping Sophie connect to her family’s past, but she forces his hand when she buys the castle on a whim.

Brooke Shields as Sophie Brown

Brooke Shields stars as Sophie Brown, a popular romance novelist whose fans turn on her when she kills off a beloved romantic hero. Frustrated and lacking inspiration, she heads to Scotland, where she gets a castle, a new nemesis and, potentially, a whole new life.

Like Sophie, Shields knows what it’s like to be at the center of a controversy or two. While working as a child model in the late ’70s and ’80s, Shields posed in a Calvin Klein campaign that became ground zero in a conversation about sexualizing teens. Much like Sophie, Shields brushed it off, becoming one of the world’s most well-known models and actors. More recently, she’s been making the TV rounds, with guest roles on Law & Order: SVU, The Middle, Jane the Virgin and 9-1-1

Cary Elwes as Myles

Cary Elwes (and his best Scottish accent) stars as Myles, the Duke of Dunbar, who’s determined to preserve his family’s legacy. Thanks to debt, however, he’s forced to sell the Castle of Dunbar to Sophie. There’s a caveat though: It’s only a temporary arrangement — to be re-evaluated at Christmas — and he has to continue living in the castle as well.

Elwes is best known for playing Westley (aka the Dread Pirate Roberts) in The Princess Bride — arguably the most romantic movie ever made. Throughout the years, he’s also starred in cult favorites like Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Twister and Saw. Recently, he starred in Season 3 of Stranger Things and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Andi Osho as Maisie

Andi Osho plays Maisie, the owner of the local pub/inn where Sophie stays during the early days of her trip. Dunbar’s a small community, so Maisie is immediately intrigued by this new outsider and quickly befriends Sophie.

Osho’s a British actor and stand-up comedian who has worked in film and television for nearly 20 years, with parts in everything from Waking the Dead to EastEnders. Most recently, she starred in National Treasure: Kiri and played Carrie in I May Destroy You. She just released her debut novel, Asking for a Friend

Lee Ross as Thomas

Lee Ross plays Thomas, Myles’ more practical and less curmudgeonly cousin. He gives guided tours of the Dunbar property to help keep the family’s tourism business alive. Thomas takes an immediate liking to Sophie.

Ross is a British actor who’s spent most of his career appearing in various British movies and TV shows. After getting his start in the 1985 teen drama Dodger, Bonzo and the Rest, Ross continued to work on television while building up a movie career in the ’90s with roles in Secrets & Lies and The English Patient. Most recently, he’s appeared in the series White Gold and Bulletproof, and he even played an ape named Grey in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
